Well I think the keyword is practice :)
As long as you practice as much as you can and love what you do, you'll keep improving and learn new things for every piece you make. Make lots of studies and observe everything you lay your eyes on, and you'll see some improvements as you keep practicing.

I never went to any art school or so, I'm mostly self taught. Also, looking at others wips and finished artwork really helped to learn.
